For patients who dread the chair
For surgical and restorative procedures, sedation options can make treatment genuinely comfortable.
You don't have to grit your way through it
Sedation at Norwalk Dental Group is offered for surgical procedures with our board-certified oral surgeon, Dr. Sung Han, as well as select restorative procedures. Such as wisdom teeth removal, surgical extractions, implant placement, and more involved restorative work. If a procedure like this makes you anxious, sedation can change the entire experience.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
A common source of dental anxiety, made far more comfortable with sedation.
Surgical Extractions
For teeth that require a more involved surgical approach to remove.
Implant Placement
A longer surgical procedure that many patients find easier to sit through with sedation.
Extensive Restorative Work
Longer or more involved restorative procedures are easier to sit through with sedation.
Three levels of sedation
Nitrous Oxide
"Laughing gas," breathed through a small nose mask. Light relaxation that wears off within minutes, so most patients can drive themselves home.
Oral Conscious Sedation
A pill taken before your visit for deeper relaxation, sometimes with light drowsiness or partial memory gaps of the appointment.
IV Sedation
Delivered through an IV line for the deepest level of relaxation, typically used for more extensive or multiple procedures at once.
Sedation manages anxiety and awareness. local anesthetic, still used at every level, is what actually blocks pain at the treatment site.
The day of your visit
Before
For oral or IV sedation, plan on a ride home and an empty stomach beforehand. Nitrous alone needs neither.
During
You're monitored throughout, however relaxed or "asleep" you end up feeling.
Right After
Groggy for the rest of the day with oral or IV. Go home and rest. Nitrous clears in minutes and most patients can drive themselves.
